What is Snapfish Lab?

Snapfish Lab contains a collection of media processing tools that you can use with your SnapFish photo collection. These tools are based on technologies currently being developed at HP Labs. To get started, simply select one of the tools below, check out the descriptions and samples, and log in with your SnapFish account to try it on your own photos!

Auto Crop

When we take pictures we often don't have time to compose them carefully. In addition, the fixed shape rectangle of our camera's eye is often not ideally suited to the subject we are taking. Cropping an image can help solve both these problems. AUTO CROP takes the tedium out of manual cropping by automatically suggesting an improved composition for many of your images. It uses advanced image understanding algorithms coupled with an appreciation of what makes a picture look great.

Note Capture

Detects the quadrilateral in an image and rectifies it into a rectangle. You can use your cameras to take pictures of whiteboards after a meeting, and NOTE CAPTURE will detect the board within the image, and rectifies it into a rectangle so you get a legible image. This tool works on images of many other images such as books, magazines, or business cards. Give it a try!

Clear Note

This is an alternate version of Note Capture tool. In addition to doing the rectification as in the Note Capture tool, CLEAR NOTE will also Correct uneven illumination, sharpen text, and do color correction. What this means is that you'll end up with an image which hopefully will resemble what you would get out of a scanner. Try it and see if using a digital camera to 'scan' notes in makes life easier for you!

Fisheye Visualization

View your album and zoom in on a photo without any clicks! This visualization tool uses Flash to provide a rich user experience in navigating photo collections. It works especially well on albums with a large number of photos. Simply move your mouse over the photo in the collection to zoom in on that photo!

Automatic Horizon Alignment

Detects the horizon in an image, then rotates and crops accordingly. If you have taken landscape photos, you probably realize how difficult it is to keep the horizon level in the viewfinder. Now you can snap away, and use this tool to fix the horizon for you!
